Training & Employment
Services

Community members can support the YW’s Employment and Training Programs and other important YW programs by shopping online or by visiting the YW Thrift Boutique at 102 King Street West in Downtown Kitchener.

Employment & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Finding strength in the face of difficultly takes courage and ambition. We see the potential in women and help them build their future with employment and entrepreneurial training.

We provide coaching, guidance, and help build self-confidence. Our programs help local women and gender diverse people find their next opportunity and remove barriers to economic security.

In Her Shoes, the YW’s employment, entrepreneurship and reskilling programs, operate within the YW Thrift Boutique, our bricks and clicks social enterprise, where we sell gently loved accessories, clothing, books and home decor. The store, located at 102 King Street West in Downtown Kitchener, provides program participants with technical training and work experience. One hundred percent of proceeds from sales in our store go directly back into supporting our programming for women, gender diverse people and girls.

IN HER SHOES: CANADIAN CAREER PATHWAYS FOR NEWCOMER WOMEN

We provide women (cis and trans) and gender diverse people who have not yet received Canadian Citizenship opportunities to learn career building skills such as entrepreneurship, e-commerce, and digital marketing. Our program supports participants in experiential training – helping them gain the skills they need to secure employment in a changing economy or explore and develop their own small business ideas.

In Her Shoes: YOUTH

This program is for young women (cis and trans) and gender diverse people between the ages of 15-30 who are experiencing barriers to maintaining or securing employment. Participants receive training and paid work experience (equivalent to 35 hours per week) in our social enterprise store, the YW Thrift Boutique.

In Her Shoes: UPLIFT - YWCA Reskilling in specialized Technology

This program is a fully-funded post-secondary certification program for employment-ready women (cis and trans) and gender-diverse individuals who are ready to upgrade their technology skills to secure immediate employment in roles which require specialized technological expertise. After graduation participants will be supported in applying these skills and making meaningful contributions to the local workforce.
