National Volunteer Week is celebrated in many countries to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism and volunteering. In Canada, it’s a time to celebrate and thank our nearly 13 million volunteers nationally.
This week we'd like to celebrate our more than 75 volunteers.
What are some of the things they do? Volunteers cook meals and help feed women and their families when they need a place to stay at our Emergency Shelter in Downtown Kitchener. Volunteers work every year at our Summer Camp for local children and youth, Camp Clover. Volunteers sit on our Board of Directors and on our Finance and Leadership and Nominations Committees, overseeing the direction of the organization and supporting us through change. A long-standing volunteer helps with data entry for our Finance Department. Volunteers serve as mentors for the girls and non-binary youth in our Community S(H)eroes program. Volunteers paint and clean up the exterior of our administrative office each spring.
To those who volunteered in 2018, to those who are giving of their time in 2019, thank you, thank you, thank you!
You’ve helped the YW—you’ve helped our community—to become better places.
From all of us at YW Kitchener-Waterloo, we wish our volunteers—we wish every volunteer in Canada—a happy National Volunteer Week!
